What To Do With the Fragrant and Thorny Memories that Shape Us - Lay Them Down

"I want to lay you down in a bed of roses".

I sing a song from my past...

yet I don't sing to someone,

or long to revisit a shared intimacy.

Instead, I sing a wish to lay to rest

my regrets

my shame

my hurts

my fears.

I want to lay them down

but honor the place

they had in my life;

shaping, sharpening and softening.

So I choose roses;

sweet, delicate, fragrant roses,

with thorns that pierced and left scars

that marked me.

A flower of love,

a bouquet of promises,

a wreath for the departed;

an act of remembrance

to celebrate my present and

honor my past.

Thank you for reading and considering these musings...

  To consider: what event from your past can you now lay to rest, that doesn't have to be an active part of your current story?
